The New European Bauhaus: beauty, sustainability and cultural heritage through the prism of Villa Tugendhat

On Monday, 21 November, a meeting titled “The New European Bauhaus: beauty, sustainability and cultural heritage through the prism of Villa Tugendhat” took place at Villa Tugendhat to explore the goals, philosophy and perspectives of the New European Bauhaus initiative.

The programme included tours of the building, which were guided by the daughter of the original owners of the villa, Daniela Hammer-Tugendhat, and her husband, restorer and conservator Ivo Hammer. The tours were followed by a panel discussion on the technical floor of the villa moderated by Martin Selmayer (Head of Representation of the European Commission in Austria). Further members of the panel included:

  • Mariya Gabriel, European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth,
  • Monika Ladmanova, Head of Representation of the European Commission in Czech Republic
  • Vlastislav Ouroda, Deputy Minister for Culture of the Czech Republic
