MUSIC DAY IN VILLA TUGENDHAT VII

Dance and Variations

The seventh annual edition of concerts by the Brno Contemporary Orchestra in Villa Tugendhat will be held in the style of dance and variations.

Early pieces by post-war avant-garde composers (Lutoslawski, Ligeti) represent still quite modest steps by modernists led by the firm hand of “tradition.” Josef Adamík can hardly be classified stylewise and hence is a very original author with a strong non-musical message.

The concert will also feature the world premiere of variations on the Czech national anthem, which Daniel Forró himself (a Czech composer living in Japan) characterizes as a contribution to the discussion on the new form of our national symbol. The evening closes with a well-styled miniature by Igor Stravinsky, where the dulcimer plays a significant role – something we would hardly expect in this genre.

Programme:

W. Lutoslawski: Dance Preludes
G. Ligeti: Six Bagatelles
J. Adamík: Nonet
D. Forró: 100 Shapes of the Czech National Anthem
I. Stravinski: Ragtime
