The exhibition about Wilhelm Lehmbruck, one of the most outstanding sculptors of the German Classical Modern, presents a representative selection of work from different periods of his artistic development, from a period of Neo-Classicism, through searching for his own means of expression and a gradual abstraction of forms, to the position of the leading representative of Expressionism. The central theme of the artist’s work is man, his humanity and spirituality, with a progressive emphasis on existential problems, a melancholy expression, introversion and a longing for inner harmony. Lehmbruck’s Torso of a Walking Woman (from 1913–1914) was chosen by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe for the interior of the Tugendhat House in Brno.

The exhibition will be presented by the curator Jana Vránová (Brno House of Arts) and Dagmar Černoušková(Study and Documentation Centre – Villa Tugendhat).

Entry fee: CZK 100; students and pensioners CZK 50.
