A LECTURE BY RADMIL TOMČÍK

31 October at 6 p.m.

When Michael Thonet invented bending wooden rods, he gave rise not only to a new morphology of seating furniture, but also a whole new industrial sector. It is inspiring to watch the development of the Thonet company’s beginnings in Boppard on the Rhine, through the engagement in Vienna, to his relocation to Moravia. His talent and hard work inspired a whole generation of people involved in manufacturing and designing furniture.

Radmil Tomčík (Přerov, 1966) graduated from the Forestry Secondary School in Bystřice pod Hostýnem (1982–1986), specializing in furniture production technology. In 1990 he graduated from the College of Forest and Wood in Zvolen (Department of Furniture). In the same year he joined the company TON, where he has been employed. He worked in various positions in production and business. At present, he is the quality manager. From a general interest in history he developed his great hobby, the history of the companies Thonet and TON.
