Who We Are
The Tugendhat Villa Foundation Fund was established in March 2006 and is the successor to the Tugendhat Villa Foundation, which was wound up for procedural reasons. The Brno House of Arts and several representatives of the Brno business community were the instigators of both organisations, which were established to support the reconstruction and promotion of this unique piece of modern architecture.
The Chairman of the Administrative Council of the Tugendhat Villa Foundation Fund is Dr. Ing. Pavel Liška, former Director of the Brno House of Arts and former Chancellor of the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, who was the founder of the Tugendhat Villa Foundation. The members of the Administrative Council are Prof. PaedDr. Radek Horáček, PhD, who is also a former Director of the Brno House of Arts, and Ing. Bronislav Hýbl, MBA, a financial and economics specialist. The Director of the Foundation Fund is Dr. Jitka Vitásková, Deputy Director of the Brno House of Arts.
Aims of the Foundation Fund
The mission of the Tugendhat Villa Foundation Fund is to support the conservation renewal of the Villa as well as to support its independent cultural and promotional activities. The Tugendhat Villa Foundation Fund has always endeavoured to unite all available expertise for the benefit of this monument and its development.
In view of the fact that at present there is a growing need to constantly seek out new sources of finance, the Foundation Fund is also turning its attention to supporting further activities linked to promoting the Tugendhat Villa at local and international level.
The long-term poor financial position of publicly funded cultural organisations does not permit the Villa's Administrator - The City of Brno Museum - to fund from its budget matters concerning in particular the promotion of the Tugendhat Villa. Moreover, an independent institution such as a foundation fund can develop initiatives which for various reasons are not available to the administrator and present owner of this historic building.
Foundation Fund Activities
Since it was established the Foundation Fund has organised specialised seminars and round tables, has mobilised the interest of foreign experts and the wider public, has organised exhibitions, issued individual publications and gathered much foreign material for a future architectural centre in the Villa. The Tugendhat Villa Foundation Fund has also supported the preparation of photocopies, sound recordings and translations of foreign material for a Study and Documentation Centre at the Tugendhat Villa. As part of the joint "Tugendhat Villa Documentation Collection Project", it has shared both organisationally and financially in developing a new website for the Tugendhat Villa. All activities of the Foundation Fund are closely linked and coordinated with the work of the City of Brno Museum as the Villa's administrator, and of the Brno House of Arts, one of the initiators of the Foundation Fund.
Dozens of domestic and international companies, as well as financial institutions and individuals, are being approached with the aim of obtaining funds to finance the work of the Tugendhat Villa Foundation Fund. Even at a time of global economic recession accompanied by a world financial crisis we are managing to gradually extend our portfolio of sponsors with an interest in linking their name and brand to this exceptional architectural treasure.
The Foundation Fund's current programme
The Tugendhat Villa, a national cultural monument entered in the UNESCO list, is now coming to the end of a general conservation restoration. This rehabilitation of the monument is without doubt the most important construction and restoration intervention in the building's history.
The reconstruction has now gone into its final phase, due to be completed in January 2013, with the Villa due to open to the public in the summer of 2013. Enormous interest on the part of visitors can be expected.
A pilot project for the Tugendhat Villa Foundation Fund is therefore to gather and process archive and contemporary materialsin order to print a series of publications to come out immediately following completion of the conservation work on the Villa. In addition to the main representative publications there will also be a series of guides in several languages, and a series of issues devoted to particular chapters in the history of the building, to the process of actually reconstructing the various facilities and materials, and also to the personalities associated with the Tugendhat Villa.
The Tugendhat Villa Foundation Fund will share in the printing of these materials, in cooperation with the City of Brno Museum, the City of Brno, the Region of South Moravia and the Czech Ministry of Culture. All photographic and graphic materials are being prepared by the Židlický Studio.
Sponsorship Offer
If you ask passers-by in Brno what they think is the city's greatest contribution to the outside world, they will probably be embarrassed and offer dozens of different answers. But if you say Tugendhat out there in the world - they will simply answer: Brno. This has been true now for seventy-five years and it is now time to put aside our embarrassment and start being duly proud of this building! In all reality we would be hard put in our city to find a building which has a better, as they say nowadays, "benchmark" than the villa on Černopolní street, one that is guaranteed for the future and with ever-increasing value. In spite of this, it does not lead an untroubled life and it is for this reason that we come to you with our offer of sponsorship options.
So take a comfortable virtual seat in one of the chairs designed by Mies van der Rohe and join those of us for whom the villa has become a love of our lives, linked to a desire to do something for it. Come into its world, one that is worthy of your attention!
If you wish to provide financial support for the most well-known piece of modern architecture in our country, if you are interested in modern architecture and design and if up to now you have not had information about modern architecture in the City of Brno, donate to our Foundation Fund and in return for your support we can offer you the following:
- By sending your contribution to the Fund's account we will together be supporting promotion of the Villa both locally and internationally.
- Your company's logo will be published in the latest guides to the Tugendhat Villa, coming out in Czech, German and English for the re-opening of the Villa to the public in summer 2013
- All the different language versions of the guide will be available free to your company
- Your company's logo will be placed on the Tugendhat Villa website /www.tugendhat.eu/
We are offering you a unique opportunity to support with your sponsorship both the promotion and the restoration of a UNESCO monument which is part of the world's cultural heritage. Please make use of this opportunity, so that you also can share in preserving this architectural gem for future generations.
